Linna's history

History of Hotel Linna

The history of the main building dates back over 100 years.
The Student Union of Helsinki University of Technology arranged an architect competition in the year 1900 to build a club house for the Union.

In the end the plan of Walther Thomé and Karl Lindahl was selected and
building was finished in 1903 and then the name was Old Poli.
The style presents Jugend, national romanticism, with its strong granite walls and tower.

Until 1967 the building was the club house of The Student Union of Helsinki University of Technology, but when they got new spaces for themselves the trend of Old Poli changed. For the next 20 years the building hosted different restaurants until 1987 when the Student Union sold the premises.

Between 1987-89 the building was rebuild with the help of National Board of Antiques. The main building of Hotel Linna is protected by National Board of Antiques and the building is still one of the most remarkable representatives of national romanticism.

The building was reopened in 1989 when the separate hotel building was constructed. Hotel Lord operated until 2004.

In January 2005 Palace Kämp Group opened remodeled Hotel Linna.
